Volume 2, Issue 1
Dear Friends,
This year our church was lead by God to corporately read the Bible in its entirety. It has been a wonderful experience so far, as the Lord is opening our eyes to so many overlooked truths in the Word.
One thing that was very significant to me is found in Genesis 2:2, “On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” God rested on the seventh day and I believe through this action, He set an example for all believers. We are living in a time when weariness is overtaking our men and women of God. God needs warriors who can tear down the strongholds of the enemy, but too many times, His warriors have become weary and worn down. The reason this spirit of weariness is attacking God's people today is because the enemy knows that when we are tired, it is hard to pray, be positive, resist temptation, etc. – Weariness causes a person to give up easily; many times, sickness is caused by weariness; –
faith can be blocked by weariness… |

Since weariness is a tactic of our enemy, we need to understand
how we should combat the problem. As we read earlier from
Genesis 2:2, God “rested” on the Seventh day, not from exhaustion,
but to refresh Himself. Too many times, we push ourselves to the
limit, failing to take God's example to heart. God never called His
people to work 24/7! A recent report has shown that 438 million
vacation days were not used among the work force in a year's time.
As unbelievable as that sounds, many people feel they are just too
busy for a break. Work is God's plan, but the key word is BALANCE.
|
| Unless we get the proper rest we need, we suffer, our families suffer,
our work productivity suffers, and greatest of all, our spiritual life
suffers. All work and no play equals disaster in every area of
our lives. |

Matthew 11:28-30 also gives us some insight into this matter. Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Another reason we have unnecessary weariness is because we have taken on yokes that do not belong to us.
In the natural, when oxen are poorly fitted with a yoke, it will rub the flesh raw and cause sores. But, when the yokes are properly fitted, it allows them to carry heavy burdens as though they were nothing. The same applies to us when we have the Lord's yoke. He has just the right yoke that fits us perfectly.

There are many other causes for weariness in our lives, some from the enemy and some we bring on ourselves. We refuse to wait on God to work as we frantically try to fix things on our own, we expect instant results from ourselves and God, and we forget that we can only take one day at a time, along with many other things. Let's make a decision today to find rest, both natural and supernatural. Why not spoil the enemy's plan and make a decision to be refreshed, just as our Creator did on the seventh day! |

I would like to invite you to join us in our daily Bible reading. The Bible we are using is “The Daily Walk Bible” by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. / Walk Thru the Bible Ministries, Inc. in the New Living Translation. I believe you will find it to be a great time of refreshing as you daily spend time in God's Word.
